“The secret of crises is not good vs. bad, it’s preventing the bad from getting worse.” – Andy Gilman

Life is full of revelations, some are bad, some good, some exceptional, and some has the capability to knock us down. The problems in the packages of surprises which make us realise the brutality of life are the shapes of personal crises.

The psychological turmoil we go through during such catastrophes always take a toll not only on the mental well-being of a person but everything related to him. In all this chaos, the professional life of a person always comes under the havoc of suffrage, which can later push him towards the path of depression.

One must understand that they are not alone getting subjected to personal crises. At some point, every person, either your boss or the peon of the company, has gone through rough times. Keeping everything in your heart, and not seeking help will only lead to more difficult situations.

Here are some points which can you to survive personal crises at work:

* Understand the Weight of the Problem

When a bad news crashes down on us, we can actually feel our world crumbling down in front of our eyes. The death of someone close to you, a bad breakup, or anything devastating has the power to shatter us down. Most of us can’t come in terms of such devastating news at once, so, your first step must be to understand that you are going through a difficult time. Let your brain process the bad news, let it sink, and understand it.

* You Can’t Reverse It

Once you have understood the problem, and acknowledged that you’re in some severe problem, the next step is to come to terms with that you ‘cannot’ reverse what has happened. We, humans, have the tendency to blame ourselves and thinking about ‘what ifs’ rather than ‘this is its’. Do not blame yourself or think about the past, you cannot change it. What has happened, cannot be reversed. Try to acknowledge it to save yourself from the whack of depression.

* Schedule Yourself

As the idiom goes, ‘An idle mind is devil’s workshop’, the life during personal crises faces the same. During such times, schedule yourself. Divide the time for everything you do, from morning’s exercise to night’s book reading, and remember to keep it tight. The scheduled life is much more hectic, leaving a very less time to make your thoughts wander into the territories you must not dwell upon much.

* Speak to someone you Trust

Talking to someone else about personal issues can be a daunting thought during the period of crises, but you must understand that you’re not alone who is subjected to such difficulties. There is a high possibility that someone close to you has gone through such time, and these people act as the best ‘personal psychiatrists.’ Where the need of a psychiatrist should not be dismissed thinking that you’ve ‘got it’, you always need someone close to you. Talk to someone you think will understand your dilemma and share your pain with them.

* Meditate

Meditation is said to be the cure of mental breakdowns, and the truth lies in its technique. Meditation helps you to calm your mind, it’s about forgetting your surroundings and connecting your soul to mind and body. When all three comes in term with each other, the inner tornado of emotions calms down, and make you think rationally. It will help beating insomnia, and prevent you from night-thought-ponderings.

* Pamper Yourself

Pampering is rejuvenating, so you must add it to your ‘to-do list’ during crises. Talk to your boss about the problem, if not thoroughly, give him a rough sketch about the problem you’re facing, and take a leave from office. You need time to deal with what’s going one, and putting up a strong front and breaking within won’t take you much further. Do things which make you happy, and always remember to smile.
