One of the biggest hurdles online stores face is the lack of traffic on their website, and some sites which generate enough traffic to be displayed on Google’s first result page, end up with low consumer action.

This gives rise to a few unanswered question:

Why does this happen?

Why a website with amazing traffic have a rather low selling figure?

What are the problems which entrepreneurs overlook and face low online sales?

It is important, for all entrepreneurs, to understand their customers. It is not easy to convert your visitors into customers but is cannot be marked as difficult too. To stand out in the herd is no cakewalk, you have to be different, not just creativity-wise, but in your approaches too.

Here are a few bullet points which can help you to boost your online sales:

1) Good Website Navigation

Good website navigation must be your first step towards improving your online sales. Understand it this way: Imagine, you’re out for shopping in a mart. You want to buy, let’s assume, a detergent, a box of chocolates, and men’s jeans. Now, you’ve spent half an hour in the store but couldn’t find out what is where. Detergent is stuffed in the rack where toys are, chocolates are socializing with toiletries, and you accidently took women’s XL size jeans to try. Not a good experience, right? It’s the same way your online store works. Navigate it properly, hire a good web designer, and make your store user-friendly.

2) Transparency Builds Trust

According to a survey held in six Indian cities by American Express and Nielsen, 60% of the home budget is spent on online shopping. Which implies that trust is building rapidly, but does your store strikes the mind of consumers when they do online shopping? Or, they just skim and leave? Trust is earned, not asked. It goes same for every entrepreneur. Online shopping is still subjected to doubt, but when a customer is placing his trust in you, he expects everything crystal clear.

- Show every tax which is applied to the product.

- What are the shipping charges?

- If the product will be delivered in gift wrap.

- Terms and conditions.

- Return Policy.

- Do not deliver reduction product, etc.

In online shopping, there’s no one-to-one, so its gets difficult for a buyer to trust the other part. Making their shopping transparent is one big thing you can do to earn their trust.

3) Understand the Target Market

If you’re clueless about your target market, you’re not going to go far. An entrepreneur is made from the target marketing. Understand who your customers are, what they need, and sell accordingly. If your target market is children, make sure you target the parents as well, and like this plan for everything. Ask your customers for reviews, and analyze them. If they are not satisfied, take corrective measures. Host polls, track your competitors, and in no time, you’ll build a good customer base.

4) Promote, Promote, Promote

Promotion is the key to success. We see actors promoting their movies, and makers their products, that’s what you have to do too. Promote your website on other online stores too, and other websites as well. Make the URL of your website present everywhere, in your brochures, shopping bags, in emails, on delivery trucks, everywhere.  Media promoting is a big tool too. If you have enough funds, and can support your website with commercial ads, a huge traffic is promised.

One must accept and remember that there is no Mantra to a successful online store. Understand that like your individuality, your store is different too. The axiom, ‘no five fingers are same’ applies well here. So, it is not necessary that what worked for someone else will work for you.’ You’re the mother of your business, nurture it accordingly.
