The Internet of things, presently one of the trending and growing topic of discussion. It is something which is causing a great impact on our lives as well as work also. Unknowingly we are so much dependent on the machines that its nearly impossible for us to imagine living without machines surrounding all around us. Similar is the case with the internet.

Sticking with the topic, what exactly is this internet of things and how is it affecting our lives??

So, what exactly is the internet of things…?

Simply put, it is basically connecting all the devices (machines) with each other. Almost all the devices are now capable of supporting internet and are having sensor in them, making them smart.

Well, Internet of things is an inception of providing objects or devices with unique identifiers. Making the objects to transfer and receive data over the network without the human to machine and machine to machine interaction. Basically, it is a wireless connection between the machines and transfer of data among them. Machine to machine communication is being made without the human support.

Consider the navigation system in the car, for example. The navigation system has a senor which connects with the traffic lights and helps the driver by letting him know about the traffic ahead. It guides the driver through the path with the least traffic and time saver.

Almost all the devices now comes under this, take either your cell phones, washing machines, laptops, headphones or any other device you can think of. Internet of things is a machine to machine interaction, which is built on networks gathered from the sensors and cloud computing.

A sensor does not do any work; it is something which gathers the information. Theses information gathered by the sensor is useless if it is does not have a proper place to get analyzed. Computed based applications are the proper place for analyzing the data collected by the sensor. The internet of things cannot function without the cloud based applications. These cloud based applications are the ones which interprets and transmits the information sent by all the sensors. This is how the internet of things works with the machines.  Image Source : http://iot-analytics.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Iot-intel.jpg

Now, how is it affecting our lives??

As we know now, that by internet of things we mean everything is becoming ‘smart’.

But what is the need to be so ‘smart’? What I mean is, why o we need our machines to be so smart?

Here let me give you an example…

Now days we have smart ‘washing machines’. They are able to diagnose themselves the amount of time required to wash a particular type of cloth and weight. Let alone this, now the washing machines able to detect the have and diagnose it themselves. If your washing Machine is not working just call the service center. They will ask you to keep you phone near the washing machine. After two to three minutes, hurray…your washing machine is back to work as always.

There are lot more examples of the smartness, most trending is building of ‘smart cities’.

Well, knowingly or unknowingly we are now so used to it because it has made our lives a lot easier and comfortable.

But everything has some good and some bad aspect also and so is this, internet of things. Internet of things is surly a support to mankind but it has challenges also. The biggest challenge is the security issue. All the machines being connected to one another, how can we make sure that our personal information will stay secure? I will be easy for any hacker to get to our personal information. Well, this is a challenge which needs to be concurred else thanks to internet of things for making our lives so luxuriant and easygoing.
