An Entrepreneur always tries to understand the world around it. He always tries to explore the inner workings of his surroundings. Let's make a small list of things that an entrepreneur might know

  1. How Facebook became so popular?
  2. How Google reached the Top?
  3. How YouTube earns money?
  4. How the internet changed the world?

WHAT YOU MIGHT KNOW?

First, let's try to understand the questions and their very famous answers.

How Facebook became so popular?

According to the movie, Social Network, Facebook or The Facebook as known before, started in a campus and slowly Students from other college started joining it and friends told each other and it got hit. Before all this, it was a website where you could see 2 pictures of campus girls and tell which one is hotter.

How Google reached the Top?

According to a Google Documentary, Google, when came, was not the first Search Engine. There were a lot of search engines like, Fast, Yahoo, and the top search engine was AltaVista. Google has a ranking system and when it was launched at a college server, it got crashed and the owner of Google sold it for 1 million dollars. Slowly it became a popular search engine among the users because it was fast and could provide better search results.

How YouTube earns money?

There are a lot of Video Surfing websites and many of them are paid. NetFlix has become a billion dollar giant and there are many others. But, despite being free to watch, YouTube is one of the most money making websites ever came into existence. Not Only the owners but the YouTube content publishers who upload videos have become millionaires. YouTube means Ads, more Ads means more money.

How the internet changed the world

Internet was designed and developed by a small group of scientists just to share their research work among the scientist community. Investors saw the real potential of the internet and made it available throughout the world.

But it was not easy, Network Companies were really excited but needed the fortune to make it work. Basically, you needed tens of thousands of kilometers of network cables to be stretched around the globe, which should be reliable and am not taking oceans into consideration.

Investors gave all their money to companies and they installed all the cables and started renting it out to other service providers but there was no market for it because there was nothing much available for normal people to do anything on it. Slowly Internet grew with some of the websites and services like You have got mail, AOL, Yahoo, eBay, and other beginners.

WHAT DO YOU NOT KNOW?

One thing is for sure that they have something in common. They are the most successful products in the market. They are the most widely used products and are at the top in their domain. These common factors tell us that there is something else in common.

Just like evolution where the most successful species can survive in almost all the conditions, Obviously, I am not talking about the microbes living on the Lava or Meteor. I am talking about the DNA Design, The Core, and The Survival Strategy, of all these products that made them reach the top and most successful in their domain.

The DNA Design

The DNA or the design of all these products was developed by Stanford, Harward graduates, and PayPal employees. They were masters in their domain and knew exactly what was required. They designed their product's DNA in such a way, it was really different than others.

Take it from nature, If you have two monkeys fighting and one of them wins, it would still be a monkey. For more power, you need a different DNA which could be tiger, elephant or whale. Being a monkey would give you a tree and nothing else.

In your company's brainstorming sessions, concentrate on out of the box ideas, think of achieving the unachievable because that is what everybody is not thinking about.

The Core

Designing The Core for your DNA is as important as designing the DNA. You don't wanna be in a situation where somebody takes your DNA and duplicates it. Have you ever seen Google, Facebook or Youtube DNA highlighted on their website?

A five-star hotel never says how big is the room but small hotels always exaggerate their services. When you do write-ups on blogs and websites about your product, you actually give everyone access to your product's DNA. A human brain is capable enough to read two lines and make 10 out of it.

Make a Good Product with Unique features but keep it safe like hidden gems for users and do not make them easy to find for your competitors. Design your write-ups properly.

The Survival Strategy

Survival is all about fighting against your death. A DNA survives when it regenerates. I have observed many startups and you can do that too by connecting to people on BigStartups. Get your first client as soon as you can. Don't think about failures or not getting the conversion. You will learn from your failures and even if a potential customer doesn't convert, you will learn why he didn't convert. Don't worry, There are millions of customers out there for you. Losing one will not make a difference.

If we have to choose dying of hunger and a bullet in the head, the bullet would be much quicker.

Conclusion

What we understand from the above is, Google's DNA was to search faster and since has never changed. Facebook's DNA was to connect with people and since never changed. YouTube's DNA was streaming videos and since never changed.

Google's core was never revealed as a feature but an algorithm. Facebook never told anyone that their secret sauce was the Like button. YouTube never revealed that their Core was a codec free video plugin which doesn't require any codec to be downloaded.

For The Survival Strategy, all three companies started from their hometown and the initial audience was their localities. They never waited to target a larger audience. They started with a small audience instead.

These concepts, The DNA, The Core, and The Survival Strategy are the most natural way of evolving your Product. Everything on earth works the same way. Quantum Mechanics has proved to us that everything is the same so I guess the same rules will apply to everything. I always to get inspired by nature. These concepts don't make much of a difference but when added to your existing strategy, It will change the way you think. Rethink, You might not know this.
