New Stem Cell Therapy to come to aid in Coronavirus Pandemic

According to new reports, there may be an answer in the treatment of Coronavirus. In FierceBiotech, Arlene Weintraub talks of melatonin and stem cell therapy being used in the war against this pandemic.

Mesoblast announced last week that they will be repurposing a treatment for lead and instead targeting it towards COVID-19. The treatment is called Ryoncil and it is already in the phases of preliminary testing.

Other news outlets are picking up the story as well. The Star reports that China is also making progress in this fight with their teams of scientists. It is reported that stem cell therapy can help to reduce the extreme inflammation that comes from Coronavirus. It can also aid with lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis.

The Daily Mail suggests further that nine patients in China have already been treated successfully with stem cell therapy. It is Dr. DongCheng Wu who is pioneering these medical breakthroughs from his lab in Wuhan.

The Australian company Mesoblast is meanwhile still using remestemcel-L to see if it can help patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) that is a byproduct of Coronavirus. These studies have been carried out in the US, Australia, China, and Europe so far.

As people take Coronavirus precautions, which is still the best method of prevention, you can feel assured that scientists around the globe are working to come up with solutions to this epidemic.
