The Government of India is all geared up to launch 'Make in India Week' on February 13, 2016. The event is set against the vibrant backdrop of India’s commercial capital – Mumbai. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the mega event at BKC, NSCI Worli. The event expects attraction of over 1,000 companies and delegates from 60 countries. 

The city will be spruced up to play host to Modi's pet project 'Make in India'. It was launched by the Prime Minister in September 2014 with an aim to make India a global manufacturing hub. It has become huge success in creating a buzz globally. “Since the announcement of 'Make in India', we have been able to get significant investments. After the launch of 'Make in India', FDI in the last 17 months as compared to the previous 17 months has grown by about 35%," says DIPP Secretary Amitabh Kant. 

Upon his arrival in Mumbai, Modi will head to the MMRDA grounds to inaugurate the official headquarters of the week - the Make in India Centre. He will be in the city for two days. The six-day long event is being organised by the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) along with the assistance of state government and the BMC. 

The theme of the event will be innovation, design and sustainability. It would offer unprecedented access, insights and opportunities to connect and collaborate with India and global Industry leaders/ visionaries, academicians, central and state administrations. The focus sectors would be -

  • Automobiles & Components
  • Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals
  • Industrial & Electrical Equipment & Machinery
  • Food Processing
  • Aerospace & Defense
  • Textiles
  • Construction Equipment and Electronics

Highlights of the event would be - 

Feb 13: Inauguration 

Feb 14: Maharashtra Night, Chowpatty 

Feb 15: Making In India, Make In Mumbai, Sectoral Seminar On Opportunities In Media And Enterntainment 

Feb 16: Sectoral Seminar On Opportunities In Defence Manufacturing, Gujarat Investor Summit 

It will be a flagship event for forging global engagement with the Indian industry in the form of partnerships and investments. It will help not only attract overseas companies to set up shop in India, but also encouraging domestic companies to increase production within the country. 

The Commerce and Industry Ministry plans to "give away" 7,000 brass paperweight lions during the week. 

Believed to be one of biggest events not just for Mumbai, but also for the country. The city will be turned into a melting pot of art, music and all things culture. The plans include larger-than-life-sized lion installations, massive interactive digital display screens with projection mapping, street food festivals, art and culture shows, musical performances, street art shows, shopping carnivals and exhibitions across museums and galleries. Digging of roads will not be allowed at all and there will be cleanliness drives across the city.
