All entrepreneurs are scared of one thing the most—the theft of their idea. In the world of business, it is counted as one of the worst nightmares.

The endless sleepless nights you invested in churning out that one ‘different, unique idea’, the continuous evaluation of every possible thing, making the blueprint, and etc. All of these take one’s most of the time and even the thought of someone stealing the hard work you put into it is abominable.

It is a cruel truth that no matter how much independent we become, we always are dependent on others for our independence. In the marketplace too, you need the help of other’s to grow and in that process, your idea comes under the surveillance of many people. It makes the safety of your idea vulnerable.

But, there are keys to every problem, and here too, with the help of some measures, you can protect your idea alright.

  1. Get Legal: It is easy to cheat you for many people, from your investors to your accountant you have thoroughly displayed the blueprint of your idea without any concealments or protections. This leaves you vulnerable and at risk. To make sure that none can cheat you, you must go legal. Hire a lawyer for your, tell him your concerns. He will give you many pieces of advice, some of which include the Non-Disclosure Agreement and Work-for-Hire Agreement.
  2. Trademark: Trademarking your company’s name will automatically bound the idea in legal terms. It will help you to take procedures to next steps without wondering who would become the snake in the snake-n-ladder market game. When your company has a name, it is related to the services you are going to provide. With this respect, trademarking your company’s name will benefit you in many ways.
  3. Be Public with Your Idea: It is always advisable to all the entrepreneurs to go public with its-and-bits of the idea. When your consumers already know what is going to come next, there are the minimum chances of someone trying to steal your stuff. It is also important to be a ‘mysterious teller’: You don’t want to tell everything yet tell things. Make your Ownership public.
  4. Make a Record of Everything: Digitalization has improved the concept of ‘safeness’. You must record all your data, files, important details of the business, and the ideal plan on the computer, your e-mail (which no one knows about), and most possibly any one of your family member’s email. So that if the problem arises where the person has found the loophole in your law agreements and other safety measures, you can always sue them. You’ll have the power of uniqueness and its proof.

There are many other measures like Patents but they are hard to get, especially for the small scale businesses. All in all, the safety of your business is in your hands and you’re the responsible ‘mama’ of it. Take safety measures which yield good results and protect you from theft.
