After presenting the idea of Startup India Initiative, the Modi government has a new tool up its sleeves for promoting the growth of startups.

As a part of its steps to support entrepreneurs, the government has announced to launch a new service, Twitter Seva, on April 21, 2016. This service will address various queries of startups in a time-bound manner.

Commerce and Industry Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman announced the launch of service during interaction with over 70 startup firms and co-working place.

“On April 21, we will be launching a Twitter Seva. Any startup which wants to access government irrespective of any department, they can (put their queries).” She said.

“The process is on. We would have a place where you can virtually contact us, tell us your issues. We have a team that will divert the things or issues to the particular ministry and then come back to you and try to reply in 24 hours.”  She added.

This could be regarded amongst the conclusive steps the Modi government has been taking for the new entrepreneurs. With ‘Make in India’ and ‘Startup India Initiative’, the government is indulging its interest and confidence in the growth of India in terms of business.

The Commerce and Industry Minister, in an hour-long interaction with the startup firms, heard their issues and responded to their queries.

On the matters related to other departments, she assured them to take that up with the concerned ministries.

The reports suggest that ministry would be meeting all the startup firm (who will use this service) and interact about ‘what is happening in the startup place.’

Sitharaman said, “Getting a feel, get inputs from you. We want the inputs to keep coming from you. I assure you that I’ll go back and come with responses. We will do course correction if requires. We are here as facilitators.”

If reports to be believed, this product is one of its kinds. It will filter all tweets ministry-wise, let the respective department analyze the tweets, mark their relevance and then inform the officer who can solve the particular user’s problem.

The Twitter Seva Service, at present, is adopted by both the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) through its ‘PassportSeva’ service and the Indian Railways.

Raheel Khursheed, the Head of News, Politics and Government at Twitter India, said, “The idea is to use Twitter to do customer service at scale. We are using this in different departments and government bodies in a phrased manner, depending on use cases. There were tweets from people reaching out to the external affairs ministers, railway ministers and other government officials. Once there were responses from the officials, it increased the volume of queries. We took that idea and built this service.”

It is a concrete step towards solving the problems startups face. Giving a virtual platform to convey their problems to respective area official will not only nudge startups into the right direction but improve their work quality as well. Entrepreneurs have always faced problems while reaching out to officials, but this service will make a direct path, and the only hope we could do is of quick responses.
