Snapdeal has announced strategic partnerships with Cleartrip and Redbus for travel, and Zomato for food orders, but without investing in them, reported HT. Separate icons for travelling and food ordering will be introduced on the Snapdeal app.Snapdeal had earlier launched pilot projects with the aforementioned companies, but now the launch has been made available to all customers using the Snapdeal app.
Also faced with a slowing business with profitability not expected anytime soon Snapdeal is aggressively expanding the services offered under its domain and the recently announced tie up with Zomato will only further the bottom line.
Snapdeal had last year claimed to surpass Flipkart in terms of GMV by March 2016. However, like Flipkart, the Alibaba-backed ecommerce company too is struggling to raise fresh capital from investors due to lack of profitability so far as well as a slowdown in funding.
With this development, Snapdeal and the three companies aim to share users, get more orders, spend less on acquiring customers, as well as save a huge amount of funds, slow the cash burn rate often spent in marketing and promotions as well as deep discounting and help to build the involved businesses organically and hope to achieve better balance sheets in the simplest of terms! These new segments and partnerships could help Snapdeal to diversify its revenue sources as well as achieve profitability in future.
