“Employees are budding flowers in the garden of your company, you’ve to water them frequently so that they grow and bloom. Don’t let those flowers wilt” - Author.
If an employee feels that the company is investing in him, he will invest in the company. Employees are one of the major component in a company. And developing happy employees is what twenty-first century management all about.
It’s simple, really…you want them to grow and they want to grow. Employees stay with your startup when they receive following from your side:
Yes, many employees love their work, love their jobs, love their colleagues, but the bottom line is they are there to earn. At the end of the day, it’s about the pay. Smart leaders pay people well and fair. It’s non-negotiable!
Your employees need mentoring. They want to feel like they’ve someone that cares about their success. When a mentor shows personal interest in the success and career of an employee, the company’s morale is boosted. It’s not possible to mentor every employee personally, you can connect them with other people – like managers, senior employees, or department heads. You can also make a formal mentoring program at your company.
To bring out the best in your employee you need to challenge them towards their potential. Be aware what each person does best and assign task accordingly. Find new ways to challenge your employees instead of doling them out with repetitive tasks. The employees see through it, that you’re instilling your trust in him which motivates him to perform much better. There should be a balance while you challenge them. You want to push them, but not so far that they go right out of the door.
A promotion is a form of recognition for employees who make significant and effective work contribution. It’s not only a way to add more responsibilities to an employee but is a major form of boosting employee motivation and morale. When an employee’s efforts are valued, he/she tends to work harder and tries to improve his/her performance further which in turn works for the business.
Help your employees feel involved by having regular meetings where everyone can voice their opinions, ideas and concerns. Research indicates that people feel better and have better lives when they volunteer. It also helps the company’s bottom line by increasing employees’ performance and demonstrating to the community that the company cares.
Appreciating the employees is never out-of-place, nor it needs any occasion. Trust me. You can tell your colleagues, coworkers and employees how much you value them and their contribution any day of the year. Identify and admire their specific action. Give small surprises and tokens to show that you appreciate and value them. A simple thank you will keep them motivated.
We all want to feel valued and believe that we are of value to others. Individuals who feel valued contribute more, do better work, are more engaged, are loyal and passionate about their work and have positive interactions with the people they work. Create a great company culture.
Articulate and share the mission, purpose and goals of your company with the people who work for you. It will give them a sense of belonging and a connection to the big picture. It is exciting to share a signified mission rather than accomplishing an unrelated task. Make sure your employees clearly understand the expectation of their job responsibilities.
Empowerment comes from within the individual, not by the manager. Give your employee the freedom, power, trust, autonomy, and encouragement to carry out job-related tasks. Empowerment will help your employee attain success on their own abilities and motivate them to strive for higher productivity in future tasks.
Any positive work relationship is based on trust. The employees needs to have trust in the organization and amongst each other. Let them connect and interact even if it means chatting about sports, or same hometown. Host lunches, parties and sports activities. Without communication and teamwork, trust will erode in the workplace.
When an employee enjoys coming at work, it’s a worthy investment!
