The work ‘Skill’ can be defined as an uncanny ability to pull something off naturally which might be a difficult task for others. Every person has some skill up his sleeves which always makes other people astonish. For an example, some people can converse so effectively that it seems to be their nature.

When we talk about a person who is the head of the department or at a very high post, we generate an image of that person in our mind which suits our perspective regarding that high post.

Now, when you launch your startup, you are much more than a founder, you become the Chief Executive Officer of your company. Doesn’t is sound nice to read the full form of CEO? Yes, I’m the CEO. But, the hard and cruel fact is most of the CEO’s don’t even possess half the qualities required to lead a company. So, here are the 10 skills a CEO of a startup must have:

1. Leadership

Leading is a skill and not all people have it. It is easy to write articles on how to fake leadership until you gain it, but as much difficult to apply theory into practical. A CEO of a startup must possess a leadership quality. He must know how to supervise his staff and make the outcome productive.

2. Balanced

A CEO must be balanced in his work ethics. It is important not to put your entire energy and mind into one task and forget the others. This will only lead to future problems. The skill of balancing and managing things effectively is a must trait of a CEO.

3. Innovative

A CEO must be innovative. He must possess this skill not only to stand out and shine brightly but to achieve the desired growth of a company. If the CEO is not innovative, he wouldn’t understand the creativity of others.

4. Productive

Productive doesn’t mean money driven, it is more of a positive skill in the business. A CEO must know how to extract out amazing results without torturing the workers. He must know how to handle difficult situations and turn the unfavourable conditions into his favour.

5. Compassionate

It is easy to boss around as you’re the CEO and it’s your company. Position sometimes gets into the head, and that’s a negative trait of human nature. But, as a CEO, you must practice its opposite. Be compassionate towards everyone. Listen to their worries, after all, they are the hands you need to run your company. Ready face criticism and oppose of your thoughts. DO not stamp down their suggestions, consider them and think if they could improve anything.

6. Passionate

Passion is a very positive trait it is for good things, and having a passion for your company will only give positive results. Be a passionate CEO. Understand the mechanism of the marketplace, learn from everyone, even if it is a child. When the leader is passionate, his team becomes passionate itself.

7. Ambitious

Ambition is often taken as a negative skill or trait, but not until you know your boundaries. Some might say what kind of an ambition it would be if it had boundaries. One must understand that it doesn’t take much to turn ‘ambition’ into ‘obsession’. Your ambitions must not become the cause of someone else’s dismay.

8. Adventurous

Adventure is not limited to going on a Midnight African Safari, that’s just a part of it. Taking risks in business is a form of adventure which makes a CEO trust himself more. Taking risk is a good thing, but taking illogical risks are not advisable.

9. Motivating

It is easy to lose motivation during the times of crises, but a CEO must possess the motivating skill. He is the master of the company, it’s his responsibility to motivate his employees and himself when the time is low. Practising self-motivation is necessary.

There are many people whom we call talkative, but these talkative people are not conversationalist.
